SEA GLASS/BEACH POTTERY FAQ'S

What is sea glass?
Sea (or beach) glass is the pebble or stone-like bits of frosty glass you find on beaches. The frosty look comes from the constant surf and sand weathering the glass and softening the edges. The end result is a highly-valued and popular natural "gem" that is used in jewellery making, mosaics, arts & crafts projects, and in the home and garden.

What is beach pottery?
Beach pottery (or sea pottery) are shards of dinnerware, clay pots, ceramic tile and other sources of porcelain that have been weathered by the elements in the same way as sea glass.

What is bonfire glass?
Bonfire glass comes from shards of glass that came into contact with fire, ie.  a beach bonfire. The intense heat from the fire melts the glass pieces, morphing them into beautiful, gem-like nuggets. Sometimes different-coloured glass melts together to form multi-coloured "gems". Bonfire glass can be further altered by nature when the hot glass comes into contact with cold water. This causes the glass to take on a crackled or bubbled appearance.

Do you sell genuine or machine-tumbled sea glass?
All of our sea glass, beach pottery and other beach-found objects are 100% surf-tumbled.

Where do you get your sea glass?
We have several areas along Lake Ontario where we pick our sea glass. Occasionally, we will have sea glass from other parts of the world.

OTHER FAQ'S

What are "Mosaic Mixes"?
Our Mosaic Mixes are our exclusive assortments of fun and eclectic stuff! They typically are a mix of broken/whole/new/used beads, pendants and findings, broken jewelry, ceramic tile (new and surf-tumbled), rocks, beach glass, beach pottery, embellishments, cabochons, and anything else we can fit in a baggie!
They are useful for arts & crafts projects, jewelry making, mosaics, home, garden and anything else you can think of!

What are aluminum alloy nuggets?
These beach finds are similar to bonfire glass, but instead of glass, they are the melted bits of cans and other metal objects.
